NSW: ID important to protect children: Education leaders
Education leaders say a system forcing visitors to New South Wales public schools towear identity tags will enhance child safety on school grounds.
Parents of students at Thomas Acres Public School at Ambarvale in Sydney's south-westare outraged at being forced to wear ID tags while visiting their children.
The move was introduced after the deputy principal was punched in the mouth by a visitorwhile discussing a student's problem.
But NSW P&C Association president SHARRYN BROWNLEE says it's becoming common practicefor visitors to sign in when they enter school premises.
A spokesman for Education Minister JOHN WATKINS says the government fully supportsthe school's policy.
And Teachers Federation senior vice president ANGELO GAVRIELATOS says the actions ofthe school are appropriate.
